Students may apply for credit for courses completed in another program at or through another university or tertiary institution. Students may apply for specified credit for courses which are substantially the same in content and standard as those relevant to their studies in the Faculty of Arts. Unspecified credit may be granted for other completed courses of an appropriate standard. The total number of units required to satisfy program requirements (#48 for the BA) is reduced by the unit value of the credit granted. Credit may also be used to satisfy some program requirements –for example, the completion of a required course for which specified credit has been granted.
Students will only be granted credit for studies completed within 10 years of the time at which they enrolled in their current program. Students may claim credit at any stage during their studies. Credit will not be granted for courses undertaken at this or another university that are graded at the level of a conceded pass (3).
Unspecified credit will not normally be granted for work undertaken in an Associate Diploma or Diploma program at an Australian university or other institutions.
Credit transfer is undertaken when requested by the student, whether internal or external, and is undertaken automatically to the associated program when a student changes from a dual program to a single or a single to a dual. There is no provision to rescind credit once it has been transferred.
Students applying for credit should submit the following documentation and should allow two to four weeks for it to be processed.
· An original or certified copy of your official academic transcript (note – the documentation you provided to QTAC is not available to the Faculty of Arts Office)
· Full course descriptions for each course for which you wish to be awarded specific credit.
Bachelor of Arts
The maximum credit available for students enrolling in the Bachelor of Arts is #32. Where appropriate specified credit can be granted, students may claim a maximum of #16 towards a major or an extended major in a given field of study. Where a student can claim more than #16 units of specified credit in a given field of study, credit in excess of #16 will be granted as elective credit, and such a student will be exempted from repeating courses for which such elective credit has been granted. All unspecified credit will also count, up to a maximum of #16, as elective credit.
Dual Degrees with the Bachelor of Arts
The maximum credit available towards the BA component of a dual degree program is #16, and this is available only in the form of specified credit. Where appropriate specified credit can be granted, students may claim a maximum of #16 towards a major or an extended major in a given field of study.
