The December 2006 edition of the Journal of Iberian and Latin American Studies (JILAS) will be a monograph dedicated to the issue of masculinity and violence in Spain and Latin America.

Objectives
AILASA was established in 1993 with several aims, including:
- To promote research into and the teaching of Iberian and Latin American Studies in Australasia;
- to promote the professional development of its members;
- to promote public awareness of and interest in the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America;
- to stimulate and encourage interchange between Australasia and the Iberian Peninsula and Latin America; and
- to coordinate and rationalise available resources among member institutions through the interchange of students, teachers and resources.
AILASA allows for full or associate membership.
Full members are individuals or corporate bodies (including departments, centres and institutes) engaged in teaching and research at the secondary or tertiary educational level.
Associate membership is open to all people who are engaged in the promotion and development of relations with Iberia and Latin America but are not involved in teaching or research.
Applications for membership are welcomed from people of all nationalities.

Subscription to AILASA's academic publication,
the Journal of Iberian and Latin American Studies (JILAS),
which appears twice a year.

Journal of Iberian and Latin American Studies (JILAS)
The academic journal of the Association is the primary vehicle for the publication of research by academics in Australasia and elsewhere. The journal is edited by an editorial committee based in Melbourne and is genuinely inter-disciplinary, covering such fields as history, politics, international relations, sociology, literature, linguistics, cultural studies and popular culture. JILAS publishes contributions in Spanish, Portuguese and English.
Recent numbers have included special editions Latin American Cultural and Subaltern Studies, Popular Culture in Latin America, Colombia and Venezuela.

Membership Fees and Application
Fees are due on 31 January biennially and include a subscription to the Association's academic journal and newsletter.
- Full membership (2 years) staff: AUS$100 or NZ$120
- Associate membership (2 years): AUS$100 or NZ$120
- Full membership (2 years) student: AUS$50 or NZ$60
- Institutional membership: AUS$150 or NZ$175
- Institutional subscription: AUS$75 + postage outside Australia

How AILASA is Governed
AILASA holds a Biennial General Meeting at which members participate in setting policy and regulations. In between meetings, the organization is run by a Coordinating Committee of ten members, three of whom comprise the Executive Committee (the President, Secretary and Treasurer). The other seven members of the Coordinating Committee represent their states or regions. The Coordinating Committee is elected by full members of AILASA for a two-year term.
