
Congratulations to Professor Alfredo Martínez-Expósito, Head of the School of Languages and Comparative Cultural Studies, who has been awarded the Official Cross of the Order of Civil Merit.
Following the recent visit to Australia by the King and Queen of Spain, the Spanish Ambassador announced that the Spanish Crown had resolved to bestow the honour upon Professor Alfredo Martínez-Expósito.
This is an honour acknowledging Alfredo’s service to Spain and Spanish culture and language. The Order of Civil Merit was created by King Alfonso XIII to acknowledge outstanding and extraordinary service to civil society. King Juan Carlos I is currently the Grand Master of the Order.
Accepting the award at a dinner function at the residence of the Spanish Ambassador in Canberra, Professor Martínez-Expósito spoke of the highly symbolic and timely recognition of the School and Faculty’s efforts to promote the study and appreciation of Spanish language and culture in Queensland.
