Our Faculty Research Centres promote cross-disciplinary research and provide links to Schools and Units.
- Centre for Critical and Cultural Studies - fosters research culture in the "new humanities" - literary and critical theory, film and media studies and cultural studies. Australian work within these fields is on the cutting-edge of contemporary humanities research internationally. The Centre hosts a range of research fellows, from within the Faculty and from other national and international research institutions. Other activities include conferences, public lectures and seminars.
- Centre for the History of European Discourses - conducts research into key European cultural and intellectual traditions (for example, the libertine literature of enlightenment France), focusing on the discourses in which thought is formulated. The Centre constitutes a distinctive research milieu through the supervision of postgraduate students, support of post-doctoral fellows, affiliation of research fellows, and the maintenance of national and international research networks; including a visitors' program.
Our projects include:
- Cultural History Project - is a multi-disciplinary initiative of the Faculty of Arts, designed to build on the Faculty’s existing strengths in cultural history, in teaching and learning as well as in research. Cultural history is one of the most innovative and dynamic areas of academic endeavour, with exciting work being conducted within – and between – an array of scholarly disciplines.
- Queensland Historical Atlas – to mark Queensland’s sesquicentenary of self-government in 2009, two of the State’s major cultural research institutions have come together to develop a new conception of Queensland’s cultural and environmental history. The QHAtlas project will synthesise cross-disciplinary approaches in history, environmental studies, archaeology, anthropology and cultural geography to explore ‘themes in the landscape’ as a means to comprehend the diverse cultural and environmental histories of the State of Queensland.
