Whether you're already a UQ graduate, or have completed your undergraduate study at another institution, we welcome your interest in postgraduate research.

The Faculty of Arts Research Higher Degree programs provide the opportunity for you to follow your interest in an area of research, to focus on this for several years and make an important contribution to the development of that area.

Different types of study are possible at the postgraduate level. These include:

Embarking on postgraduate research involves developing your capacity for creative, independent research, critical thinking, problem-solving, and time and project management. You don’t go it alone, though: you will have the opportunity to be supervised by UQ academics who have achieved international recognition for their research excellence.
Take a minute to look at the current research projects of just a selection of the Faculty’s outstanding staff: their innovative projects may also help you shape a research question that is appropriate for postgraduate studies.
Your postgraduate research in the Faculty of Arts is also supported by seminars that help you through the research, and assist you in making the transition from Honours to genuine research opportunities.
